Houston – Alice Orene Whitt Harmon, 89, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at her home in Houston. She was born January 21, 1926 in Chickasaw County to Luther Ell Whitt and Janie Mae Harmon Whitt. She worked at Martin Motors and Griffin Motors and as an office worker at Houston Monument Company. She was a charter member of Parkway Baptist Church, having moved to Houston in 1959 after living in the Arbor Grove Community and accepting Christ in 1951. She taught Sunday School for 38 years in both churches.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Parkway Baptist Church in Houston with Dr. Randy Rinehart officiating. Burial will follow at Arbor Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Houston. Houston Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include daughter, Glenda McCully of Houston; Son, John Wayne Harmon of Houston; Sister, Ila Mae (Harry) Robinson of Houston; Brother Luther E. (Joyce) Whitt, Jr. of Woodland; Grandchildren, John W. Harmon, Jr., Chris Harmon, and Kent Womack; Great-Grandchildren, Kevin Womack, Dusty Womack, Danielle Womack, Jarrod Womack, Faith Womack, Chelsea Harmon, Chloe Harmon, and Gabriel Hampton Harmon; Great-Great-Grandchildren, Alma Bowen, Stetson Perkins, Tristen Perkins, Sadie Womack and Clarke Womack. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 66 years, John Hampton Harmon; her brother Lonnie Whitt; and grandson Randy Womack.
Pallbearers are John W. Harmon, Jr., Chris Harmon, Kent Womack, Kevin Womack, Tracy Whitt, Dusty Womack, Jarrod Womack, and Shaw Sullivan. Honorary Pallbearers are Jimmy Furguson, John Parsons, Bobby Gilbert, and Steve Pearson. Visitation will be Friday, August 14, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Houston Funeral Home in Houston.
