Nora Neville Hamilton Harlien, 87, of Hamilton, died Feb. 28, 2009 in Temple. Funeral services were held March 3, in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Matt Hall officiating. Burial followed in the Toliver Cemetery.
Mrs. Harlien was born May 26, 1921 in Lamkin, the daughter of W.L. and Nora Daniel Hamilton. Her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Hamilton, moved to Comanche County in 1889 and Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Daniel moved to Comanche Co. in 1856. She lived on the land that her grandfather bought in 1889. She enjoyed her cattle and the other farm animals.
Mrs. Harlien lived in several different states while married to W.A. Luce, who was in the Army. They lived in Hawaii, one of her favorite places, for three years. She enjoyed a luau on the beach, spending Christmas Day on the beach and watching it rain while the sun was shining.
She was in the nursing profession for 40 years. Mrs. Harlien worked in Texas City and Hamilton for many years. She enjoyed the nurseries at the hospitals particularly. She took great pride and joy in saying that she delivered half of Hamilton. She took her first airplane ride when she was 68 years old. She made the ride a long one-she went to Alaska to visit her first great-grandchild, Jonathan.
She was preceded in death by an infant son and her husband, Boyce N. Harlien
Survivors include her two sons, Walter A Luce. Jr. and wife Carrol and Boyce (Bill) N. Harlien, Jr.; daughters; Lana Luce Hassel and her husband Vernon, Lydia Harlien McGhee and Richard, Lecia Harlien Adams and husband Joe; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
