Nell Harley Goodman, 87, of Orangeburg, died Thursday, March 7, 2013 after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Sunday, March 10, 2013 at St. Pauls UMC with Rev. Gary Peterson and Rev. Charlotte Best Seignious officiating. Visitation will be held 1:30 3:00 PM before the service at St. Pauls UMC. Friends and family may call at the residence of Jo and Jim Wyrosdick, 391 Pinehill Road, Orangeburg, SC. Mrs. Goodman was born in Orangeburg, the daughter of the late Andrew Joseph and Nell Carter Harley. She was educated in the Orangeburg City Schools, attended Furman and Columbia College. A lifelong member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church, she joined the choir as a teenager. She had a lovely voice and sang in many weddings and funerals. She also attended and sang in the choir at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer for a few years. A past member of the Music, Club, a loving wife and dedicated mother, she was active in the schools as a grade mother and Cub Scout Den mother for her children as well as a hospital volunteer. She was the widow of Charles Bennett Goodman, Jr. and was predeceased by her son Charles Goodman, III and her brother William Irvin Harley. She is survived by her daughter, Andrea Jo Wyrosdick and husband, Jim, of Orangeburg, her son, Fred Harley Goodman and wife, Janie, of Irmo; five granddaughters, Anna Goodman Bailey (Steve of Charleston, Andrea Wyrosdick Creech (Tom) of Greenville, Carolina Lowery Wyrosdick of Asheville, NC, Elizabeth Hardwick (Travis) of Blythewood, and Catherine Salley (Rotie) of Mt. Pleasant; three grandsons, Bennett Goodman, IV, James Clifton, both of Charleston, and Christopher Clifton (Katie) of Columbia; seven great-grandchildren, Sims and Drew Bailey, Marion, Jane Ann and Celeste Creech, Adam Hardwick, and Emily Anne Salley; her brother, Joe Harley, Jr, (Virginia) of Chesnee; sister-in-law, Carolyn Thomas Harley of Columbia and a niece and nephews; special friend, Ginger Sims Risher of Orangeburg. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Jolley Acres Nursing Home for their loving care as well as the nurses and staff of 2nd East of the Regional Medical Center. Memorials may be made to St Pauls United Methodist Church, 1356 Amelia Street, Orangeburg, SC 29116 or a charity of ones choice.
