Our loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister, Judith Sharlene Harkness Barlow, passed away in her husband's arms March 28, 2003, after a long and valiant struggle with various illnesses.
Judy was born Feb 17, 1938 in Salt Lake City to Wallace and Alice Harkness.
She married her loving eternal companion, Don Barlow Aug 13, 1959 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, and together they reared five children in Bountiful, UT. Although Judy suffered for decades from rheumatoid arthritis and numerous related illnesses, she endured her pain with unceasing courage, humor, hope and a selfless love for others, especially her family to whom she was devoted and who in return considered her the center of their world. Her cheerful nature and world-class cooking - in particular her famous cinnamon rolls, pies and brownies - made her home the gathering place for her family each Sunday and holidays, and she never failed to surprise each of her five children, their spouses and her 17 doting grandchildren with gifts on their birthdays, the dates of which she had devoted to memory and could quickly rattle off by heart. Despite her poor health, Judy made a special effort to fulfill her callings and responsibilities in the LDS Church, including serving as a primary teacher, Cub Scout den mother, visiting teacher, extraction worker and compassionate service leader.
Judy is survived and will be gratefully remembered by her loving husband, Don; adoring children, Craig (Deanna) Barlow, Scott (Collette) Barlow, Jeff (Tami) Barlow, Jill (James) Haslam, Jennifer Barlow; mother, Alice Harkness; sister, Dorothy (Cliff) Stauffer; brother, Wallace (Carol) Harkness; sisters, Betty (Chris) Love, Peggy Black; and 17 grandchildren. Judy was preceded in death by her father, Wallace Harkness, and grandson, Zachary Barlow. She had an especial love for her three family dogs, Gretchen, Barney, Kiley; and her children and grandchildren take great comfort knowing that their tails are wagging again.
Friends and family may call Tues. April 1, 2003, Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful, 6-8 p.m. and prior to services 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Bountiful LDS 27th Ward Chapel, 1135 N. 200 E, Bountiful. Services will be Wed. April 2, 2003, 1 p.m. Internment, Bountiful City Cemetery.
Special thanks to Dr. Cecil O. Samuelson Jr., for his many years of compassionate service and love. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Utah chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.
