Kathleen Hargrove Stewart, 100, of Cameron, died Oct. 13 in an Austin nursing home.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, graveside in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mrs. Stewart was born to Alex Murray and Mary Ella Busby Hargrove on April 28, 1908 in Rosebud. She was the next youngest child in a family of 13 brothers and sisters. She was the last survivor of the siblings.

She graduated from Rosebud High School in 1926 and from Baylor University in 1932.

In order to pay her tuition, she taught school at several rural schools in Milam County. After teaching at Marlow, Ad Hall and Watts Switch, she taught at Buckholts. While at Buckholts, she met her future husband, B.F. Stewart, (Benjamin Franklin Stewart) at his grocery store in Cameron. They married on Dec. 10, 1933 and made their home in Cameron. She worked as the bookkeeper in the business until her husband's death July 19, 1965. She ran the business two more years and then leased it to I.J. Mikulec.

She continued to operate the family's commercial building and family farm until she fell and was injured at her home in 2002.

Survivors include her son Franklin Stewart of Cameron, two grandsons, Ben Stewart of Anaheim, Calif. and Patrick Stewart and wife Wendy of Austin, and a great grandson, Jamin Stewart of Tyler.

Mrs. Stewart was particularly proud of her great grandparents, Robert and Charlotte Chappell Hargrove of Chappell Hill, who were citizens of the Republic of Texas and her grandfather, Nathan Busby, who was killed in the line of duty while serving as the Rockdale Constable.

She was honored in 1982 by Baylor University as a Golden Graduate and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cameron.

Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
