Vera Eva Wittwer Hardy, age 97, died at her home in Logandale, Nev. on Monday, June 3, 2002. She was born August 21, 1904 in Bunkerville, Nev. to Samuel and Barbara Bertha Tobler Wittwer. On June 4, 1926 she married Dudley Leavitt Hardy in the St. George LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on September 2, 1938. Vera grew up in Bunkerville. She taught school in St. Thomas before she married Dudley. After his untimely death, she went back to college for one year, then worked for 30 years as an elementary school teacher in the Moapa Valley. She was a faithful member of the LDS church, always serving in many different callings. She served as a temple ordinance worker, as a missionary to the Indian Branch and in genealogy. She was very talented with handicrafts, especially quilting, crocheting and ceramics. She loved people and loved visiting. She was especially close with her children. Survivors include two sons and two daughters: Elaine (Jay) Whipple of Logandale, Nev.; Glen (Shirley) Hardy of Logandale, Nev.; Mike (Ann) Hardy of Logandale, Nev.; Bertha (Dee) Smith of Alamo, Nev.; 16 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Grant, one grandson, Elwin Whipple and all of her 21 brothers and sisters. She was the youngest child and lived the longest. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 8, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the Logandale LDS 5th Ward Chapel. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the chapel. Interment will be in the Bunkerville Cemetery under the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary.
