Winnie Athelene Mooney Hardwick was born January 2, 1926 in Stuart, OK to Josie Addie May and Letas (Doc) Mooney and went to be with Jesus on February 11, 2014. Upon graduating from Stuart High School, Athelene became the first in her family to attend and graduate college. She attended East Central State College during the summers working on her Teacher's Education degree while teaching in a one room school for Rock Creek, OK during the school year. After receiving her degree from ECSC, she secured a first grade teaching position in Calvin where she met eligible bachelor, Harry Hardwick, fell in love and married on August 18, 1953. Four children followed and she balanced her love of family and students spanning a teaching career of 30 years including 23 years in Calvin. She and Harry were married 37 years before he went to be with the Lord in April 1991.For a time she resided at Heartland Plaza in Ada where she served as Secretary and President of the Resident's Association. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life and a great source of pride. All of the residents of Calvin always held a special place in heart. She attempted to keep up with hometown news after she moved to Ada. She was preceded in death by husband, Harry, parents May and Doc and brother Donald Mooney. Funeral service has been scheduled for 10:00AM on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Calvin Schools Auditorium in Calvin, Oklahoma. Bro. Jim Lawrence will officiate. Interment will follow at the Calvin Cemetery, Calvin, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home in Holdenville, Oklahoma.
