From headstone wife John T.
Died, at her home in South Salem township, Wednesday, April 19, 1899, from consumption, Virginia J, Barrier, wife of John Z. Barrier, aged 30 years, 7 months, and 28 days.
Virginia J. Harding was born in Loudon county, Virginia, August 22, 1868. Soon after her birth, in 1870, the family removed to Illinois, where they resided a number of years. Their next removal was to Missouri, where at the age of sixteen years, Virginia united with the Presbyterian church, in which faith she continued faithfully unto the end.
In 1889 she came with her parents to Kansas, to Greenwood county. On February 8, 1893, she was united in marriage to John Z.Barrier. Two children were born to them, who with the father are left to mourn the untimely death of a faithful wife and loving mother. The deceased is also survived by a father, mother, two brothers and a sister.
Her death was not unexpected. For some years she had been a great sufferer. But God has at last released her suffering and taken her unto Himself. So we cannot but feel that our loss is her eternal gain.
The funeral services, conducted by Rev. George Johns, were held Thursday afternoon, at four o'clock at the Reece Presbyterian church, the interment following in the Reece cemetery.
