Birth: Apr. 13, 1917
Martins Mill
Van Zandt County
Texas, USA
Death: Jun. 24, 2012

Monteze Botkin, 95, of Baytown, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012. She was born April 13, 1917, in Martins Mill, Texas to Willie Joe Hardin and Maudie McWilliams Hardin and had been a resident of Baytown for the last 83 years, moving to Goose Creek in 1929.

Prior to moving to Baytown, Monteze spent her early years living on a ranch in New Mexico where she rode a horse to school each morning. In Baytown, Monteze continued her education at Horace Mann Junior High and Robert E. Lee High School where she was a proud member of the class of 1934. She graduated from Lee Business College and earned a Masters in Education from The University of Houston.

In 1937, Monteze met and married Clark E. Botkin from El Dorado, Kansas. They had two daughters and were active in First Baptist Church of Goose Creek which later became Memorial Baptist Church of Baytown. Monteze participated in many programs and taught Sunday School at all levels throughout the years.

Monteze's professional teaching career spanned 27 years and was filled with accolades and achievements. The majority of her career was spent in Baytown working with Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District where she was one of the first two female supervisors hired by the district and became the first female middle school principal in 1967 when she accepted the position at her alma mater, Horace Mann Junior High School. Monteze enjoyed all phases of her work and was a long time member of the Gamma Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was active in the Baytown Education Association, Texas State Teachers Association and the National Education Association. She also served as an active member of the National Curriculum Association and the American Association of Secondary Principals. She retired from her principal role and GCCISD in 1977.

Upon retiring, Monteze and Clark took an active interest in golf and traveled with friends to play at many of the country's famous golf courses. She continued her passion for travel as she toured much of North America with friends and family many years after retirement.

Monteze loved her family, loved the Lord and knew that faith was the foundation of happiness and success in her life. She considered Philippians 4:13 her life verse and it was evident in all her actions; "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Clark E. Botkin.

Survivors include her daughters, Ann Hench and her husband Dave of Utica, New York and Sally Bargainer and her husband Mike of Baytown; grandchildren, Bryan Jacobs and his wife Debi of Los Angeles, California, Melissa Bargainer of Dallas and Clint Bargainer and his wife Karen of Houston and great-grandchildren, Lauren and Jenna Jacobs and Hayden, Landon and Reid Bargainer.
