She was born Sept. 4, 1934, in Marion, the daughter of Arthur and Ethel (Davidson) Harbolt.
She attended Harding High School.
On Aug. 15, 1951, she married Alvin DeVore, who survives.
In Irving, Texas, she married John Jordan in 1987, who preceded her in death in 2005.
Ethel never met a stranger. She was always compassionate and helpful, and she made any event joyful.
She was an avid bowler and ballroom dancer, and she enjoyed her flower gardens and various crafts. She was very proud of her accomplishments as president of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 26 in Mansfield. During her tenure, she doubled the membership while traveling the state and raising awareness about the functions of the organization.
She had a number of jobs over the years. She was part owner of the gas and grocery store in Mifflin for a number of years and worked at National Latex in Ashland and Thermo-disc in Mansfield. While employed as a night auditor for the L&K Motel chain in Mansfield, she enjoyed visits with Paul Newman during his stays there for the races. The job she enjoyed the most was traveling the 48 states while married to a truck driver and managing the 18-wheeler herself.
She is survived by her sons, Alvin DeVore of Mesa, Ariz., John DeVore of Ashland and David DeVore of Mount Vernon; daughters, Rebecca (Ron) Morehouse of Jeromesville and Laura (Lee) Zeigler of Ashland; brothers, Dave Harbolt of Coos Bay, Ore., and Robert and Larry Harbolt of Marion; and sisters, Mary Cook and Shirley Martin of Marion and Lennie Morrison of Melbourne, Fla. She will be sadly missed by all, including grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who shared in her joy of life.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Melody DeVore Wright Drake in 1992; brothers, Arthur, William, Frank and Richard Harbolt; and sisters, Anna Wanamaker, Donna Tyler and Ruth Murphy.
