Emerald L.Carpenter

MCPHERSON- Emerald L. Carpenter, 85, died March 27, 1994, at McPherson Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born Dec. 9, 1908, at McPherson, the daughter of Harry G. and lulu Brubake Hapgood. A lifetime McPherson resident, she was a vice president in the loan department at McPherson Bank and Trust.

She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and charter member of Soroptimist Club.

On Feb. 22, 1957, she married Fred Carpenter at McPherson. He died June 3, 1983.

Survivors include; a son Craig Colburn, Wichita; a stepson, Bob Carpenter, McPherson; a step daughter, Jan Sink, Basehor; a brother, Harold Hapgood, Pear Ridge, Ark., a sister, Mary Ellen Shinn, Hutchinson; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the McPherson Cemetery with the Rev. Herb Smith presiding.
