COLESBURG, Iowa -- Marguerite Lucille Brown, 93, of Colesburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at the Guttenberg Care Center, following an extended illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at United Methodist Church, Colesburg, with the Rev. Allen Craft officiating. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery, rural Colesburg. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Edgewood. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
She was born on March 20, 1915, in rural Garber, daughter of Palmer and Hattie (Smith) Hansel. She was raised and educated in the Colesburg area.
She married Elmer K. "Mike" Brown on Nov. 12, 1935, in Earlville; he preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1990. They lived in Manchester for three years and then moved to the Colesburg area and farmed until they retired in 1980.
Marguerite loved being with family and friends. She also enjoyed cooking, quilting, embroidery and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.
Marguerite was a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Mallory Mixers.
Surviving are her two sons, Robert (Janet) Brown and Kenneth (LouAnn) Brown, both of Colesburg; five grandchildren, Daniel (Ann) Brown, of Waverly, Douglas Brown, of Colesburg, Barbara (Jim) Hunt, of Cedar Rapids, Beth (Bryce) Caple, of Maxwell, and Todd (Amy) Brown, of Marion; twelve great-grandchildren, Alicia and Nathan Brown, Robert and Kayla Brown, Gregory, Grant and Emma Hunt, Taylor and Mikel Brown and Drake, Creighton and Hannah Caple; a stepgreat-grandchild, Kelly (Craig) Ruegnitz, of Elkader; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Hansel, of West Union.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Squire Hansel.
