Birth: Apr. 12, 1930
Crossroads (Delta County)
Delta County
Texas, USA
Death: Aug. 1, 2010

Joyce Elizabeth Brackeen, 80, of Cooper died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, after a long and courageous journey through Alzheimer's disease.

Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, in the First Baptist Church of Cooper with Rev. Mike Fortenberry officiating. Interment follows in Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of the Delta Funeral Home.

Visitation is to be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.

She was born April 12, 1930, in the Cross Roads Community. She was the youngest daughter of Jinks and Eula Stanley Hanna. She married Mickey Brackeen Nov. 7, 1948. She and Mickey farmed and raised cattle in the Cooper area from the time they married until present. In 1985, they received the award of Farm Family of the Year by Cooper Chamber of Commerce. Theirs was a true partnership in every sense of the word. Their years of marriage and working together set a fine example to follow.

Her chosen career was help mate to Mickey, mother to Cathey and Jo Ann and grandma to Jay. She was active for many years at Antioch Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School to children, youth and young women and served as church secretary. She and Mickey joined First Baptist Cooper after Antioch Baptist disbanded. She was an excellent seamstress and had a reputation far and wide for baking especially chocolate pie and banana pudding.

She is survived by her husband, Mickey Brackeen of Cooper; two daughters and son-in-laws, Cathey and Freddy Daughtrey of Paris, and Jo Ann and Ray La Fon of Blossom; one grandson, Jay Daughtrey of Paris; two step-grandsons, Lance and Corby Daughtrey of Austin; two sisters, Clara Burnett of Terrell and Verda Carrington of Sulphur Springs; a sister-in-law, Wanda Talley of Cooper; and a brother-in-law, Loyd Anderson of Little Elm.

Pallbearers are Don Parks, Eugene Stanley, Eddie Burnett, Ronnie Buchanan, Sammy Lancaster, Gary Anderson and Jeremy Anderson.
