MARGIE C. HANKS GARRISON, 101, of North Little Rock, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2006. Born Dec. 24, 1904, in Austin, Texas, she was the daughter of Robert E. and Laura (Jennings) Hanks. She came to North Little Rock in a covered wagon, riding and walking all the way. The family settled where Camp Pike was built and had to move near Cato, where Mrs. Garrison grew up. She attended Teachers' College in Conway, receiving awards in oratorical speech, and obtained her degree to teach. She then taught in a one-room school house.
She met Jasper Garrison, married him on June 8, 1926, and they were blessed with a son and a daughter. Mrs. Garrison taught Sunday School at her church, was a Girl Scout Leader for a troop throughout the school year and into summer camp, a 50-year member of Sylvan Hills Extension Homemakers Club, and the oldest member of 4-H. A lifetime Methodist, she was a member of Sylvan Hills United Methodist Church.
