A funeral for former McMinnville resident Earl Hanes was set for 1 p.m. today in Restlawn Funeral Home, Salem. Private interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.
Mr. Hanes died Jan. 12, 2003, in his home. He was 84.
He was born Feb. 23, 1918, in Childress, Texas.
He and Christina Moser were married June 11, 1943, in Lamont, Calif.
He served in the Army's 273rd Infantry in World War II from 1943 to 1945. He moved to McMinnville in 1950 and remained a resident for about 50 years. He had worked as a meatcutter in Safeway stores.
He enjoyed sports, politics and his family. Family members said he had a charming sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Daniel Hanes of Salem and James Hanes of West Linn; a daughter, Julie Hanes of Vancouver, Wash.; three siblings, Bill, Bobbi and Jewel, all of Bakersfield, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Muel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Home Health Care of Salem Hospital.
