Richard Nelson Hanes, Jr., 74, of Roanoke, died Friday, October 4, 1996. He retired as a Civil Engineer and was an Air Force Veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Mildred B. Hanes; sons and daughter-in-law, Stephen A. and Kay Hanes of Fairfield and Richard N. Hanes III of Atlanta, Ga; two grandsons, Lance Cpl. Mike Hanes, U.S. Marine Corps, American Embassy, and Matt Hanes of Georgia, and sister and brother-in-law, Harriet Jean and Bob Martin of Roanoke. Services will be at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 7, 1996, with the Rev. M. Dennis Herman and Dr. Harry Y. Gamble officiating. Interment will follow in Fair View Cemetery.
