RITES FOR MRS. ELIZABETH BURRIS CONDUCTED FRIDAY
Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Burris, 85, were conducted Friday afternoon at the Clinkingbeard Chapel with the Rev. Walter Bullard of Springfield officiating. Burial followed in the Ava cemetery.
Mrs. Burris died Wednesday last week after an illness of several months.
Elizabeth Hancock, daughter of Martha J. and John Hancock, was born near Mountain Grove, in Texas County, July 13, 1856. She was married to Johnson Burris in 1879 and moved to a farm in eastern Douglas County.
To them seven children were born, five of whom survive. Her husband, one son, and one daughter preceded her in death. Surviving children are Mrs. Cora Gilley of Norwood route 2, J. C. Burris of Jerome, Idaho, Mattie L. Burris, J. W. Burris and Charles R. Burris all of Ava. All the children were present for the funeral except J. C. Burris. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Mattie Lemmon of Los Angeles, California, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
In February 1894 Mrs. Burris united with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She lived in Ava since 1916.
