Maxina G. Hampton, age 85, Joplin, Mo., went home to the Lord on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at National Healthcare, following an illness.
Maxina was born on March 26, 1926 in Protem, Mo., the daughter of the late Lafe and Audra (Taber) Cole. She graduated from Coweta High School in Coweta, Okla., a member of the class of 1944. She married Max Hampton on September 18, 1947 in Mt. Home, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on November 30, 1996. She was a member of Generations Freewill Baptist Church. She worked as a cashier for Milgram's and Consumers Grocery Stores for several years.
She is survived by her son, Fred Hampton and his wife Nancy, Joplin; one sister, Kay Cruzan, Warner, Okla.; four grandchildren, Lindsay Smittle and husband Jake, Olivia, Audrey, and Lane Hampton; and two great-grandchildren, Natalie and Evan Smittle.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Reverend Gerald Bass will officiate. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Rhodes Cemetery, Protem, Mo.
The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
