Harry L Hampton passed away at the age of 52 years from a heart attack at his home in Plymouth, Indiana, on March 5, 1931.
Harry Hampton was born August 2, 1879, at Lafayette, Indiana, to Stephen K. and Emeline Hampton. When young in years, he with his parents, moved to West Township, Marshall County, settling on a farm near the Pretty Lake church where he grew to manhood. In later years, the family moved to Plymouth, residing on West Lake Avenue.
He was united in marriage with Miss Nettie Crawford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Crawford, on January 5, 1907. To this union were born four boys; Harvey, Walter, Everett and Willard.
Harry Hampton was a man of sterling qualities, honorable and honest in his dealings with all people; a real artist, as the many homes and business rooms of the city are evidence of his workmanship.
He loved his home and was a splendid husband; always showing great respect to his devoted wife and showed great interest in the welfare of his boys whom he adored and no sacrifice was too much for him to make for them. He was a good neighbor and a friend to everybody.
His health had been failing for some time and yet his going away was so sudden that it was a shock to the community.
He passed to the Great Beyond at his home at 216 South Plum Street, March 5, 1931, at the age of 51 years, 7 months, and 3 days.
He is survived by his faithful wife, four sons, one brother, William Hampton, west of the city; one sister, Mrs. Bert Frank, of Chicago; and other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and one brother, George.
The relatives attending the funeral were: William Hampton and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Frank, of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Listenfelt of Elkhart; John Crawford, Jesse Crawford and family and Mr. Huffheim, of Mishawaka; Mrs. Elijah Crawford of South Bend; Warren Crawford and daughter, Mrs. Jackson of River Park.
Funeral services were conducted from the home, Rev. J.F. Appleman officiating. Internment was made in McElrath cemetery.
