Billie Kathern Bracey
(December 19, 1925 - June 7, 2013)

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2013 in the Hathorn Funeral Home Chapel for Mrs. Billie Kathern Hammond Bracey, 87, of Morgantown, who died, Friday, June 7, 2013 in Hattiesburg. Interment was in the Morgantown Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 8 at Hathorn Funeral Home. She was a dedicated wife, loving mother, grandmother, great and great great-grandmother and a wonderful example of faith, hope and love.

She was born on December 19, 1925 to the Rev. Bill and Johnnie Hammond in Morgantown. As a young child she often traveled with her father as he preached in various communities. Billie was a faithful member of Morgantown Church of God and served as treasurer of the women's ministry for many years. She loved her church and community and after Jesus, her family was the center of her life. Everyone loved to stop by and enjoy a time of sitting on Bill Bill's front porch. She loved cooking for her family and spending quality time with them. In her younger years, she worked as a seamstress. She also kept people informed with what was going on in Morgantown by writing in the Grapevine section of The Columbian-Progress for many years. Billie had a love for quilting and crocheting. If you ever stopped by she would be sitting at the sewing machine or have crochet thread in her hands.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Bracey; parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Bill Hammond; daughter, Kay Emler Morgan; son, Billy Jo Emler; sisters, Maxine Hammond and Rosa Lee Morgan and grandsons, Robbie Emler and T.J. McNabb.

Survivors include her daughter, Sue McNabb (Tommy) of Morgantown; sons, Bobby Emler of Columbia and Butch Emler of Columbia; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Erma Dunaway and Joyce Thornhill both of Morgantown; brother, Sonny Hammond (Jean) of Morgantown and a host of dear nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers were Dustin Morgan, David Bittinger, Jon Miller, Michael Lord, Kenny Cooper, Cuco Tinajero and Clay Hammond. Honorary pallbearers were Gabe Miller, Jonathon Miller, Damon Morgan, Landon McNabb, Tyler Tinajero, Samuel Bittinger and Matthew Bounds.

We will greatly miss her presence with us, but we know she has reached her heavenly home for which she lived and awaited for.
