A former resident of Montpelier, Opal Combs, 96, died at 9:20 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006 at North Woods Village in Kokomo.
Born in Montpelier on Oct. 4, 1909 to Elija and Alice Gaskill Hammond.
She had worked at RCA in Marion, the Montpelier Glove Factory and was a water meter reader for the city of Montpelier before moving to Greentown in 1977. She was a member of the Meridian St. Christian Church in Greentown.
She is survived by three grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert E. "Duck" Combs, who died Dec. 2, 1979; a son, Robert Combs; and a brother, Arthur Hammond.
There will be no calling. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Montpelier.
Arrangements are being handled by Glancy Funeral Homes, Walker Chapel in Montpelier.
