Maxine D. Bystrom, of Lincoln, NE., formerly of St. Edward, NE., passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Autumn House Hospice Care in Lincoln, NE. Maxine, daughter of Charles Hammatt and Blanche (Grantham) Hammatt DeForce was born February 1, 1922 in rural Cedar County, Nebraska.

Maxine was baptized and confirmed in Sioux City, IA. where she lived during her childhood. She attended grade school and graduated in 1940 from East High School in Sioux City, IA.

Maxine was united in marriage to Marion H. Bystrom. They lived in various Nebraska communities before moving to St. Edward, NE. in 1959, which she always considered home. In 1976, they moved to Columbus, NE. and later she moved to Lincoln, NE. in 1996. Maxine was a homemaker and worked as a part-time postal clerk.

Maxine had been a member of the United Methodist Church of St. Edward, NE., Highland Park Evangelical Free Church of Columbus, NE. and most recently, Capitol City Christian Church of Lincoln, NE. She belonged to the Women's Society of Christian Service, St. Edward Women's Club, Christian Women's Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and was a Red Cross Hospital Volunteer in Columbus. She was always active in church, teaching Sunday School for many years, and was also a Cub Scout Den Mother. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always making family her main focus.

Surviving Maxine are: daughters, Diane Klassen of Hastings, NE and Suzi (Jeff) Toavs of Lincoln, NE; sons, Michael (Marjorie) Bystrom of Castle Pines, CO., Eric (Dianna) Bystrom of Greeley, CO. and Ronald (Marlene) Bystrom of Portland, OR.; grandchildren: Brennan (Carrie) Klassen of Gretna, NE; Jeremy (Robin) Klassen of Fort Worth, TX; Holly (John) Smith of Omaha, NE; Kerry (Brad) Davis of Hastings, NE; Chad (Missy) Bystrom of Kansas City, MO; Jill (Ryan) Everly of Castle Rock, CO; Michaela (Chuck) Robbins of Littleton, CO; Erica (Chris) Galvez of Chicago, IL; Michael (Kristen) Bystrom of Aurora, CO; Brett (Sarah) Bystrom of Wellington, CO; Mark (Deborah) Bystrom of Madison, WI; Jason Bystrom of San Francisco, CA; Ryan (Kim) Bystrom of Spring Hills FL; Sara (Kyle) Bystrom-Williams of Portland, OR; Heather (Darrin) Curry of Lincoln, NE; Dori Umphreys of Lincoln, NE; great-grandchildren: Rachel Klassen; Nathan, Kyra and Drake Smith; Ella and Grace Davis; Kody and Chase Everly; Payton Robbins; Austin Bystrom; ScarlettSue, ArielleAnne, JubileeJade, Osa and MagentaMaye Umphreys; Carter, Caeden, and Camryn Curry and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by: husband, Marion "Hap" Bystrom; father, Charles Hammatt, step-father and mother, Ray & Blanche DeForce; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bill & Mildred Hamann, Art & Elaine Utesch; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Mel & Bonnie Cox; son-in-law Gene Klassen; grandson Toby Toavs; niece Sandra Larsen; nephew Randy Utesch.

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, St. Edward, NE.
