As a child, she and her family moved around in Missouri - as his father was a river boat pilot.
She married John Bentley Bemis Sr DO Dr. on January 1, 1884 in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada (they divorced before 1914 - he remarried, she did not)
They had 4 children -
-Fay Hamilton Bemis b. 1885 IL d. 1970 Alaska (m. Elsie Elsa Vollmar)
-Harold Bemis b. 1887 d. 1889
-John Bentley Bemis Jr. (DO) b. 1890 Nebraska d. 1959 MN (married first Sutherland, then 2nd Mable)
-Margorie Cambridge Bemis b. 1893 Nebraska d. aft 1940 (married Bronson West)

Dr. and Mrs. J. B. Bemis hosted Mr. and Mrs. Will (Fannie L. Hamilton) Penrose of Alton, Illinois, at Minnetonka Beach, Minnesota, for the Summer in 1901. Dr. J. B. Bemis was an osteopathic doctor, was a member of the board of directors of the Minnesota State Board of Osteopathic Examiners in 1903, was a member of the Minnesota State Osteopathic Association in 1906, and was a member of the constitution and code of ethics revision committee of the Minnesota State Osteopathic Association in 1906. J. B. Bemis of St. Paul received a permit from the State of Minnesota for a private trout hatchery in 1912.
In 1920 Nannie was the Manager of the Ashland Hotel ("family hotel")
In 1930 she was not employed and living with her son John Bentley Bemis Jr.
Upon death, her body was removed to Alton Cemetery where her parents and some of her siblings are buried
1939 MRS. (NANNIE) BEMIS ASHES' TO BE BROUGHT HERE
Mrs. Nannie Bemis, sister of the late George Hamilton of this city died recently in St. Paul, Minnesota it was learned today by William Penrose of Central Avenue. Mrs. Bemis is a former Altonian although she has lived several years in St. Paul. The remains were cremated and the ashes will be sent here Tuesday with burial to be in the City Cemtery at 9 o'clock in the morning.
Ashes of Mrs, Bemis Buried in City Cemetery Services were held Tuesday At City cemetery when the ashes, of Mrs. Nannie Bemis, a former resident of Alton, were interred there. Mrs. Bemls, a daughter of the' late Capt. J.ohn Hamilton of Alton, died at St. Paul, Minn., where she had resided for a number of years. Her body was cremated there.. Surviving Mrs. .Bemls are a daughter, Mrs. (margaret) Bronson West of St, Paul, and two sons, Floyd (fay?) 'and John Bentley Bemis, and a sister, Mrs Lydla Smlth of Macon, Mo, Among those In attendance at the burial service yesterday were Mr, and Mrs. William Penrose, relative*.,
