Velma Leona Hamilton Boone Velma Leona Hamilton Boone, a native Austinite, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2005, at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by husband, Oren Monroe Boone in 1943, her mother and father, Katie Catherine Hamilton and Joseph Hiram Hamilton, sister Hazel Lucille Phillips, brother Norris William Hamilton, and nephew Joseph Clifton Phillips, Jr. Velma is survived by her daughter, Shirley Jean Winston and husband John Gary Winston of Wimberley; grandson Gary Wayne Winston and wife Cindy Debold of Lago Vista; granddaughter Janet Shirleen Winston Justice and husband Henry Virgil Justice III of Kerrville; three great- grandchildren, Melissa Gaye Ward and husband Jeramy Lee Ward of Kyle, Henry Virgil Justice IV of Dallas, and Mark Andrew Justice of Corpus Christi; one great-grandson, Bryce Winston Ward of Kyle; sister- in-law Nell Hamilton; two nieces Faye Ann and Martha Nell; and several great nieces and nephews. Velma was appointed by the Grand Chapter of Texas, OES to be a Grand Officer nine times. She was Worthy Matron of Martha Chapter #883 in 1961-1962. Martha Chapter joined with Austin Chapter in 1992. She became a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1999 and continued to be an active member as long as she could. She was a member of the Past and Present Worthy Matrons and Worthy Patrons, District 5, Section 6. She enjoyed working with seven chapters of Rainbow Girls and was Mother Advisor of Austin Assembly #5 in 1965 and Grand Visitor of Austin Assembly #5, Grand Assembly of Texas, International Order of the Rainbow Girls from 1968 to 1980. She also received the Grand Cross of Color in 1965. Other organizations include her being a 50 year member of the Ruh Neb Temple #64 Daughters of the Nile in 2000. She was in their Dancing Girls for 12 years and was a long time member of the Nile Choir. She was a member of the VIP Club. She was a charter member of the Ladies of the Oriental Shrine and was a member of the Texas Star Lodge #264 Ladies Auxiliary. Velma retired from the State Bar of Texas after 20 years of service. Graveside Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 23, 2005, at the Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Dr. in Austin.
