Sarah Jane Hamilton Braswell
passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2011. Born March 25, 1929 in Austin, Texas, she was the daughter of Florence and Leonard Hamilton. She graduated from Austin High School where she served as a member of the 'Red Jackets' girls' club. Sarah earned her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Texas where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Loyalty and devotion to her sorority continued the rest of her life as she served as an active alumna in Corpus Christi. While employed as a social worker in San Antonio, Sarah continued to pursue a graduate degree in psychology. It was during this time that she met Edgar Joseph Braswell, Jr.. They married June 6th, 1952 at the University Baptist Church in Austin. Sarah and Ed lived in San Antonio briefly and moved to Corpus Christi in 1955 when he became manager of the South Texas Region for Monroe Calculator Company. In 1973 Sarah and Ed began their own company, Braswell Office Systems, located in downtown Corpus Christi. For years, Sarah was active in PTA organizations. An 'outdoors' girl, she loved to fish and would take every opportunity to 'slap together' peanut butter sandwiches, load up the girls and head to the beach to surf fish. A tenacious tennis player, herself, Sarah served as the mainstay, unfailing fan and supporter through her daughters' years of competitive tennis. She was an avid gardener, talented pianist, and expert seamstress. Ed and Sarah Braswell were founding members of Central Park Presbyterian Church in Corpus Christi which later became Grace Presbyterian Church. A long time member of the Corpus Christi Area Heritage Society, she enjoyed serving as an officer and a docent at the Centennial House. She loved to dance. She and Ed were founding members of 'Lamplighters' Dance Club in San Antonio and were members of 'Merryners' Dance Club in Corpus Christi.
Sarah is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Ed, and her sister, Margaret Bond.
She is survived by her three daughters: Rebecca Braswell Gardner, Abby Braswell Carlson of Corpus Christi and Cynthia Martin (Jim) of San Antonio; she is also survived by seven grandchildren: Rebecca Sarah Gardner and J.E. Peyton Gardner of Savannah, GA; James H. Martin, III of San Antonio; Amy Claire Wallace (Ben) of Corpus Christi; Madeline Claire Carlson, J. Russell Carlson and Sarah Jane Carlson of Corpus Christi.
Honorary pallbearers include Bill Findley, John 'Tot' Westervelt, Tom Cron, Ron Woods, Bob Adams, Patrick Reagan and nephews, Terry Bond and Edward May.

A memorial service will be held at 1st Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 2:00 p.m..
