Obituary - Canon City, CO newspaper - Feb 1990
Alma Harms Haman of Canon City died Saturday, Feb. 10, 1990, at the age of 93. She was born March 17, 1896 in Ohiowa, Neb. to Marie Mueller and John Henry Harms. On June 9, 1896 she was baptized at the Kiowa German Evangelical Lutheran Church, where her grandparents attended. She was confirmed at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Neb. on March 20, 1910. A few months later her family moved to Omaha, Neb., where they became members of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church. She became active at this time as a member of the choir. While in the choir, she met martin Hamann, the son of the founders of the congregation. On April 20, 1918 they were married. She remained with that congregation, giving her time and energies outside of her family life to teaching Sunday school and singing with her husband in the choir as well as serving as soloist for many events. Mrs. Hamann continued serving her Lord in this manner all during the time her three children were growing up and continued doing so into the lives of her grandchildren. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Hamann moved to Santa Barbara, Calif., staying until 1981 when she moved to Canon City. In Canon City she was a member of Christian Family Fellowship. Following a stroke, she spent the last years of her life at the Canon Lodge. Mrs. Hamann was preceded in death by her husband in 1963. She was also preceded in death by a great-great-granddaughter. Mrs. Hamann is survived by two sons.
