'Pud Foster, and trained by David Cross Jr. Sunny's Halo was the 2nd Canadian-born thoroughbred to win the Kentucky Derby, which he did in 1983. The 1st to do so was Native Dancer in 1964. At the time of his win Hunter's Halo was ridden by jockey Eddie Delahoussaye. All together he won 9 career victories, 8 of them in stakes races, with 4 coming in Group One Events, and he was 3 times second and twice third in just 20 career starts. Among his other honors, was being named Canada's Sovereign Award Winning Champion Two Year-Colt. He made his three-year debut in winning the Oaklawn Park Rebel Handicap and the Group One Arkansas Derby, as well as many other honors and wins. His son was Mostly Sunny who was retired as a stud in 1986 with $1,247,791, and was Canada's all-time leading money winning thoroughbred. Hunter's Halo was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 1986. On June 3, 2003, he was euthanized at age 23, in Tyler, Texas, due to problems with his legs. (bio by: K)
