Marcia Hall Akers

Marcia Hall Akers passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at her home, as she desired. She was predeceased by twins at birth in 1955, her parents, Arthur Hayden Hall and Louise Newell Hall, and her husband of 53 years, Donald E. Akers. Marcia was born in Midwest, WY, June 21, 1929 and graduated from high school in Vivian, LA in 1946. She first attended college in Natchitoches, LA for Red Cross Lifeguard training and swimming certification. She then attended Texas Tech to study Architecture, followed by University of Colorado, where she received her Bachelor's in Fine Arts and Art Education. She met Don Akers while diving at the public pool in Midwest, WY. They were married on November 23, 1952. She greatly enjoyed teaching, whether it be swimming lessons to children and adults, Cub Scouts or her numerous art students at Fruita Junior High. Her hobbies included swimming, playing bridge and the pursuit and mastering of her art in multiple media. Marcia is survived by her son, Richard Akers and his daughters, Elizabeth, a high school graduate; and Samantha, a sophomore at Central; and his granddaughter, Ssaray, all of Grand Junction; her daughter and son-in-law, Adriane and Joseph O'Hara and their family, Ryan, serving in the Peace Corps in Peru; Hollis, a senior at University of TX; and Tim, a junior at VRHS, all of Leander, TX. Special gratitude is given to all of the great staff at Hospice, Gray Gourmet, Mesa County Public Library Homebound Services and special thanks to Theresa Ochoa and Betty Wells. Adriane would also like to thank the fantastic staff at Gold's Gym. She will be interred at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
