James Harmon Hall, age 85, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2008, at the Arkansas Hospice Center in Little Rock. Born in Quitman, Arkansas, on May 8, 1923, he was the son of the late Frank and Nettie (Bettis) Hall.
James attended Henderson State Teachers College and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, from which he was drafted into the Army Air Corp for World War II. After the war, he worked as an insurance executive, entrepreneur, and owner and trainer of thoroughbred horses. His greatest accomplishment, however, and the joy of his life was his children and grandchildren, and he will be fondly remembered and dearly missed. James was a 32 degree Mason and a Shriner. His religious belief was Methodist. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother and young sister; and his sister, Elvina Hall.
James is survived by his children, Madolyn Martin of Little Rock, Teresa Hall of Conway, Ellen Hall of Sherwood, Cristin Adam of Dallas, Texas, and James Hall of Houston, Texas; one sister, Edna Erle Stark of Heber Springs; and three grandchildren, Richelle Rees and Abby and Luke Hall. James is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 27, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home at 601 W. Main in Heber Springs. Graveside services and interment will be held Sunday, Dec. 28, at 2:00 p.m. at the Central Cemetery near Quitman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Garland County Meals on Wheels, 905 W. Grand Ave., Hot Springs, AR 71913. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, 601 W. Main, Heber Springs, AR.
