Mrs. Jodi Lyn Arnold, age 38, of Fernandina Beach, passed away on Wednesday morning, June 13, 2012 at the Baptist Heart Hospital in Jacksonville.
Born in Grand Rapids, MI she moved to the Nashville, TN area as a young child. She attended Smyrna High School in Smyrna, TN before coming to Jacksonville and attending Bishop Kenny and graduating from the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, Class of 1992. Having received a scholarship in music, she continued to pursue her love and knowledge of music and the arts at Florida Community College of Jacksonville where she earned her Associate Degree. While a student at FCCJ, she met a co-student and music major, Gabriel J. Arnold of Fernandina Beach, whom she married on December 31, 1994. They began their family in October of 1995 as Jodi became a stay-at-home mother. Their family continued to be blessed as five more children joined the Arnold household. In 2005, Jodi returned to school, attending the University of North Florida to pursue her teaching degree in English Education. Jodi, Gabe and their family have made Fernandina Beach their home since 2009.
While raising children and attending school, Jodi worked at Applebees and Steak and Ale in Jacksonville and after settling in Fernandina Beach, at Shoney's on Sadler Road, where she was oftentimes referred to as the "Best Waitress". Most recently, she had worked at La Petite Academy and in the Deli at Publix in Yulee.
Accomplished on the clarinet, she played with the Amelia Island Arts Community Band. Jodi loved all music, reading, African poetry, and writing and analyzing the lyrics of country songs.
Jodi leaves behind, her husband of 17 years, Gabriel "Gabe" Arnold, their children, Justin, Jennifer, Jordan, Julie Ann, Jessica and Joshua, all of Fernandina Beach, her mother, Constance Patterson (Dennis), Milton, TN, her father, Steven Hale, (Jan) Sardis, OH, her in laws, Wayne and Gwen Arnold, Fernandina Beach, FL, three sisters, Patti Kirkey, Jacksonville, FL, Amy Cameron, Kerri Clark and a brother, Patrick Patterson, all of Murfreesboro, TN, her maternal grandmother, Mae Harris "The Cookie Grandmother", Freemont, MI, her paternal great-grandmother, Virginia Harris, Murfreesboro, TN and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 16, 2012 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home with her father in law, Wayne Arnold, and Reverend Tony Edgy, officiating.
Her family will receive friends on Saturday at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until the hour of service.
Jodi will be laid to rest in Bosque Bello Cemetery, Fernandina Beach, FL.
