Grandma Hale (from Elm Springs). Grandma Hale died last Saturday after a long spell of sickness and was buried Sunday. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family. (The Springdale News 28 July 1893.) -- The Springdale News was a weekly published on each Friday in the early years. Microfilm copy on deposit in the Springdale Public Library, Springdale, Arkansas.

John and Elizabeth were the parents to the following children in birth order: Sophia D (1840); Martha (1843); James (1845); John (1848); Mary (1852); Elizabeth T (1859); and N.C. or Nancy (1863).

Regarding the headstone: Due to the location, nothing shown in the reading of 1984 and the fact all other Hale members have a stone, we believe this to be Elizabeth's. Only a partial letter or number was visible when examined.

(Some believe that Elizabeth Hale's maiden name was Snoddy. Addition records would need to be researched to support this. Although, John Snoddy was in the home in 1880 and noted as a nephew, there is not a clear indication to which one was a blood relation. Additional information is pending.)
