Chambers, Martha Halbrook

ATHENS - Graveside services for Martha Halbrook Chambers, 75, Athens, are scheduled for noon Tuesday at Oaklawn Memorial Park with Rev. Jerry Halbrook officiating, under direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, Athens.

Mrs. Chambers died Oct. 19, 2008, in Athens.

She was born July 15, 1933, in Athens, to the late Jerrel "Stokes" and Martha "Mattie" Rosella Harris Reed and was a lifelong resident of Athens.

She was an active member of the business community with executive secretary positions for a law firm, an oil company and title companies. She was a member of Business and Professional Women's Club where she served as president of the Business and Professional Women's Club. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Chambers, and the father of her children, R.D. "Dwain" Halbrook.

Survivors include sons, the Rev. Jerry Halbrook, McKinney, Jimmy Halbrook, Athens; daughter, June Richards, Houston; brother, Pete Reed, Lindale; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice or to Davis Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 1991, Athens, 75751, or Parkway Baptist Church, 5600 Virginia Parkway, McKinney, 75071.
