PERCY - Funeral services for Bobby Edward Hairston, 69, of Percy, a retired service manager, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Hollandale Baptist Church, Hollandale. He died of heart failure Nov. 3, 2003, at his home. Burial will be in Hollandale Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.
He was born in Moorhead, Miss., the son of the late William Dow and Annie Miller Hairston. He moved to Hollandale with his family and graduated from Hollandale High School. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He returned to Hollandale, where he was employed with Southland Oil Co., and in the mid-1960s, he became associated with Farmers Inc., retiring in 1999 as service manager.
In 1965, he married Thelma Lee Powers, who preceded him in death in 1997. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruth Cole and Marie Guyton; and a brother, Wayne Hairston. He was a member of Hollandale Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Ann (Joe) Simmons of Percy; two sons, Dwayne (Hope) Powers of Wayside and Wayne G. (Wendy) Powers of Jackson; one sister, Mary Ann Cooper of Greenville; two brothers, William D. Hairston Jr. of Scott and Ira K. Hairston of Hollandale; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Boone Funeral Home chapel, Hollandale.
