Margaret C. Brennan, passed into eternal rest at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at her home in Collinsville, Ill. She was 101 years old. Margaret was born of Jacob and Mary, nee Kneidle, Hahn on March 22, 1906 in Grape Creek, Ill.
Mrs. Brennan graduated from St. Elizabeth's Hospital School of Nursing and worked for a time in Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Ill. She studied home nursing (then a new concept in nursing) at the University of Michigan. She worked for the American Red Cross in North Dakota and in Oklahoma on an Indian Reservation.
Margaret was working as a visiting nurse for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Granite City, Ill., where she met her husband, John Howard Brennan. They were married on Nov. 7, 1935, in Danville, Ill. She worked as the school nurse for 12 years in the 1950's in the Edwardsville School District. She and her husband ran the Brennan Greenhouse in Collinsville for 20 years.
Margaret was an active member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville for 65 years. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and one of the founders of their popular "Kaffe Klatch." She was also a Girl Scout leader.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Howard Brennan, who died Nov. 23, 1996; her parents; four sisters; two brothers; and two grandchildren.
Surviving are her children, John (Maggie) Brennan of Collinsville, Ill., Mary (Brian) Glass of Ann Arbor, Mich., Martha Brennan of Collinsville, Ill., and Jane Alves of Troy, Ill.; her eight grandchildren, James P. (Cathie) Jennings of Highland, Ill., Joseph P. (Lori Davis) Jennings of Highland, Ill., John P. (Heidi) Jennings of Westmont, Ill., Jeremy P. Jennings of Troy, Ill., Andrew J. Brennan of Caseyville, Ill., Michael L. (Elvie) Brennan of Tempe, Ariz., Teresa M. (Mark) Brennan-Pomatto of Champaign, Ill., and J. Tom (Julie) Brennan of Los Angeles, Calif.; 11 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Seth, Leah, Jessica, Dustin, Jared, Megan, Justin, Johnathan Jennings, Julian Brennan-Pomatto and Daniel Brennan.
Memorials are requested to the "Father Morris Endowment for St. Peter and Paul School."
Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, Ill., and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. A Prayer Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Funeral: Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at St. Peter and Paul Church in Collinsville, Ill., with Father John Beveridge and Father Aloysius Ndeanaefo officiating.
Interment will be in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Collinsville, Ill.
