The family were farmers near Norman Oaklahoma during the Dust Bowl years. In the fall of 1937, the family moved to the Owyhee Irrigation Project near Ontario, Oregon. They totally developed their land from sagebrush land.
As an adult, Neil was known for Whitey's Upholstery Shop, doing very fine work. Later, he enjoyed living part of the year in Arizona and being part of flea markets.
Neil was married several times. With his first wife, Pauline Boston, he had two daughters: Leona and Mary. His 2nd wife was Rheta Cooper; his 3rd wife was Katie Lemmel; and his 4th wife, Elsie "Kelly" (Black) Hampson Olsen.
