ARLINGTON, TX - Phyllis B. Hagood, 44, of Arlington, formerly of Engelhard, died Aug. 16, in Arlington after a gallant and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Beaufort County on Nov. 6, 1950 to Mattie M. Berry of Englehard and the late Earl Berry.
She was married to Richard Hagood of Raleigh in 1972. Mrs. Hagood was educated in Hyde County schools, graduating from Mattamuskeet School in 1969. She received a degree in business from Hardbarger School of Business in Raleigh in 1970.
She was a member of Rush Creek Baptist Church where she was leader of the Awana Girls' Auxillary. She was a homemaker. Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are daughters, Kelly and Stacey of the home; sister and brother-in-law Martha and Freddie Harris of Askewville; 4 nieces and one nephew; maternal grandfather, Dan Midgette of Edenton. Preceding her in death are her father Earl Berry, a sister Barbara Berry and a brother Bradley Berry.
The funeral was held August 18 at Emerald Hills Funeral Home in Kennedale.
Burial was at Emerald Hills Memorial Park.
A memorial service will be held Sept. 9 at Engelhard Baptist Church where she attended during her youth and was pianist for several years. (The Coastland Times (Manteo, NC) - Thursday, August 31, 1995; pg. 8A)
