Statesboro - Miss Bertha Julia Hagin, 102, died Tuesday. The native and life long resident of Bulloch County was a retired school teacher. She graduated from First District Agricultural and Mechanical School, now Georgia Southern University. Miss Hagin taught school in Bulloch County for 46 years at several schools including Ogeechee, Statesboro Grammar School and Mattie Lively. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the Bulloch County Historical Society, the Archibald Bulloch Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Farm Bureau and the Friends of the Statesboro Regional Library. She was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church where she was the oldest living member.
Surviving are a niece, Eloise Simmons Jackson of Tennille; two great nieces, Alice O'Neal of Covington and Margaret O'Neal of Hartwell; a great nephew, James O'Neal of Atlanta; a nephew-in-law, Ralph O'Neal of Hartwell.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00am at the New Hope United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
