Ethel Leona Hagemann of Holyoke was born April 17, 1916 five miles north of Holyoke at the family farm to Ernest A. and Ida M. Ellis Hagemann. She passed away Thursday, October 26, 1995 at Prairie Vista Care Center in Holyoke at the age of 79.

Miss Hagemann attended the Liberty Grade School and graduated from Phillips County High School in Holyoke. She worked as a telephone operator at the Holyoke Telephone Company after her graduation from high school.

She then completed two years of college at the Success Business College in Denver and graduated in December 1941. In 1942 she began working in Holyoke for Dr. Hill as his secretary and also as his assistant. She became a registered x-ray technician.

Her medical career included employment with the Colorado Children's Hospital in Denver and with Saint Benedict's Hospital in Sterling. Ethel returned to Holyoke and became the administrator for what is now Melissa Memorial Hospital. She was administrator twice during her career, once when it was managed by the Lutheran Hospital Society.

When Melissa Memorial Hospital was first built, she helped with the move into the new facility. During her career, she also became a registered medical library technician. After her retirement she continued her association with the medical community by serving as a member of the Heginbotham Medical Center Board of Directors.

Ethel was a member of the BPW and had a keen interest in the Colorado Boys' Ranch in LaJunta. Her favorite pastime was traveling and she had visited most of the 50 states. She was especially fond of vacationing in Lincoln City, Oregon.

Preceding her in death were her parents and brothers Clarence Hagemann and Carl Hagemann.

Survivors include brothers Harold Hagemann and wife Vera and Howard Hagemann of Holyoke; sister Edith Gentry and husband Leonard of Lakewood; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were conducted on Monday, October 30, 1995 at the Schmidt-Baucke Funeral Chapel in Holyoke with Rev. Jim Blake officiating. Interment followed at Holyoke Memorial Park.
