Veta Alice Hagen
Veta Alice Hagen was born March 17, 1909 in Decatur County , Iowa, the daughter of Enos Clark and Lillie Trembly. She grew up and attended schools at Holden, Davis City, and Pleasanton. She graduated from Leon High School near the top of her class. She accepted the Lord at an early age and was baptized and became a member of the Holden Baptist Church. Veta was a faithful Christian. She prepared to be a teacher, but on December 5, 1928 Veta and Mervil Mark Hagen were married at the home of her parents. To this union three children were born: Athel Delphine, Donald Ovid, and Danny James Hagen.
The family went west to Colorado, Oregon, and Washington in 1937 but in 1949 they returned to Missouri and purchased a farm in Lindley Township near Pleasanton, Iowa. Veta and Mervil joined the Bethel Methodist Church where she planned many programs, taught Sunday School classes, served as Sunday School Superintendent, and worked with the MYF. She was Chaplin of the Queen Victori Chapter of the Eastern Star at Pleasanton, affiliated with Davis City, Leon, and Humeston chapters.
Veta worked as a nurses' aide at the Decatur County Hospital and Elder Lane Manor in Leon, Iowa. One night on her wa y home from work, she was involved in an automobile accident and never resumed working or driving. After Mervil died in April of 1988, she lived alone on the farm until she moved to Princeton in 1993.
She was a caregiver for any family member who was sick and traveled many miles to help out when needed. Veta enjoyed her family and kept up a large correspondence. She liked to read and sew. She made many beautiful quilts, most to be given away. Mervil and Veta learned to make beautiful bead baskets.
She was very happy that she was able to attend to 50th anniversary of her daughter's marriage in May of 1997.
She is survived by her daugher Athel and husband Jim McIntosh of Lebanon, Missouri; sons Donal Ovid and wife Michelle of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Danny and wife Brenda of Princeton, Missouri. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, eight great-great-gran dchildren, and other relatives and friends.

Also preceding her in death were brothers-in- law Cecil Hagen, Gerald Graham, Champ Spencer, Dean Flora , Clell and Leo Dunn; and sisters-in-law Lenora and Mildred Hagen, Irma and Lois Dunn.
