Billie Jean Hadlock, age 82, passed away June 11, 2008. Billie was born on Oct. 21, 1925 to Marion Francis Boyd and Alice Geneva Stafford in Creal Springs, Ill. She met LeGrande Hadlock in California and they were married on April 8, 1945. A year later their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Billie worked as a telephone operator and in the business office for 24 years for Mountain Bell but her true calling in life was raising, along with LeGrande, their five handsome boys. She loved life the most when she was with her family. She also enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing, but most of all those family reunions where she could sit around the fire with her boys and grandchildren. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in which she served in several callings, over the course of her life. Her favorite calling was her and LeGrande's calling as temple workers. While serving in that calling they would travel to the Provo LDS Temple at least three times a month. Billie also loved drawing and painting in water color books. She was known for her beautiful roses and loved to keep a freshly cut rose in a vase or floating in a pretty glass bowl. She often let her grandkids pick the rose and cut it. Her grandkids were always spoiled with cookies and their choice of Extra Bubble or Juicy Fruit gum.
Despite a long life lived, there wasn't an ounce of hardness in her. All these things she was and did and much more, but none of them could define her. Those big beautiful eyes imbuing every look with compassion, her gentle words and light jokes filling your heart with lightness and those gentle touches too often unnoticed are what we cherish and what we'll miss.
She is survived in death by her five boys, Todd L. (Lonnie) Hadlock, Rex (Annette) Hadlock, Kent (Kathy) Hadlock, Tim (Ellen) Hadlock, Van (Wendy) Hadlock all of Vernal, Utah and 28 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by both parents; her only brother, Marion Boyd; husband, LeGrande; and their daughter, Nancy Ann Hadlock.
TTFN Mom, grandma, we love you and will miss you but are happy your back with LeGrande and Nancy Ann. Till we all meet again.
Funeral services were Monday, June 16, at 11 a.m. at the Vernal 5th Ward LDS Chapel, 250 N. 200 West. A viewing was Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment was in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
