He was Christened 8 Apr 1838 in Kanyár, Szabolics-Szatmár-Bereg, Hungary. He married Rákhel Kiss on 15 Feb 1866 in Tiszakanyár, Kisvárdai járás, Szabolics-Szatmár-Bereg, Hungary. Family tradition says he came to USA on a merchant ship and jumped ship in the New York harbor because he had no passport. He worked and saved for two years before he sent for his family in Hungary, his wife and the first four children. Only Fred (the youngest child) was born in this country.
When his family came, they all settled near Malvern, Arkansas, where he worked on the railroad. Then they moved to Topeka, Kansas and then to a farm near Medicine Lodge, Kansas. Hearing that there was green grass near the Salt Fork River, even in winter, the family moved to a farm, SE1/4 S12-28-15, about 20 miles NW of Alva, Oklahoma. They moved there in February, 1894.
