Clarence S. Hackett, 87, of Parkersburg passed away June 22, 2009, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Wood County, the son of the late Steven and Ida Lemley Hackett. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving with the 84th Infantry "Railsplitters" Division and was the recipient of the Bronze Star. He had retired from the the C.S.X. Railroad after many years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Yates Hackett of Parkersburg; his daughter, Deborah Hackett McCullough and husband, Dennis, of Barboursville, W.Va.; granddaughter, Tiffany McCullough Carroll and husband, Gabriel; great-grandson, Sterling Carroll; his sister, Charlotte Rowley of Silver Springs, Md.; his stepdaughters, Ruth Cummings and husband, Donald, of Paris, Pa., and Twila Papay and husband, Joseph, of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; his stepgrandson, Bruce Cummings and wife, Amy, of St. Louis, Mo.; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Alexander and Matthew Cummings.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Higgins Hackett in 1988; his son, Stephen Michael Hackett in 1978; and his brother, William Hackett in 2003.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg with the Rev. Rich McClure officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery with full military rites by Parkersburg American Legion Post 15.
