DEATH TAKES ELLEN ELDER
Death came early this morning to Mrs. Francis Ellen Elder (sic), 91, well known resident of this community for 75 years. She passed away at her home, 410 North Main stree, about 8 a.m.
She had been in ill health the past three years and seriously ill the past 10 days.
Last rites wil be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Lutheran church where she had been a member for 75 years, or since she came to Fairfield. Dr. E. A. Piper will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The body is at the Hoskins funeral home and will be taken to the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. the day of the services.
Francis Ellen, or Ella (sic) as she was known by her many friends, was born Ausut 28, 1859, at Troy, Iowa. Had she lived until the 28th of this month she would have been 92 years old.
She was the daughter of the late Garland and Serena Allen Hackett. She was united in marriage on August 28, 1885, to Cassius Clay Elder who preceded her in death on May 10, 1899 (sic. May 8, 1899 per his obituary). The couple was married in Ottumwa.
Mrs. Elder is survived by two daughters, Bess and Reva Elder at home; three grandchildren, Mrs. Ralph Rank, Bettendorf; Raymond Elder, Davenport; and Donald Elder, Bettendorf; and three great grandchildren, Karoly Elder, Barbara Ann Rank, Kenneth Elder and Christine Elder.
A daughter, Mae (sic. Zella May Elder), passed away on November 16, 1889, and a son, Harry, died June 10, 1942.
