Grube received the distressing news that her nephew, Raymond Hacker, second son of her only brother Charles, of Philadelphia, was shot dead on June 3, while discharging his duty.
He was 24 years old and a member of the State Constabulary guarding the Du Pont Powder Works in Virginia. All the foreigners had recently been discharged and Hacker, seeing a man enter a place where the highest explosives were kept, ordered him to leave. The fellow turned and shot Hacker dead. The funeral of the victim took place at Philadelphia on Tuesday. From last reports the murderer, a Joseph Tyler, was arrested."
