Marlene Baird, of Red Lake Falls, MN died on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at her rural Red Lake Falls, MN home following a courageous 3 ½ year battle with cancer.
Funeral service will be 10 AM, Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Red Lake Falls, with Reverend Gary Graff officiating. Burial will follow at Immanuel Cemetery, Wylie, MN.
Visitation will be 6 – 8 PM, Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service, Red Lake Falls with an 8 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to the service at the church, Thursday.
Marlene Ann (Hacker) Baird was born July 8th, 1944, daughter of Irvin and Gertrude (Sellner) Hacker the 2nd of six children in Comfrey, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and Murdock Public High.
Marlene met James Dale Baird in 1962 and the couple married on Sept 19th, 1964 at Benson, MN. They welcomed Kimberly Sue on August 3, 1965. Marlene attended the University of Minnesota Morris, and graduated with a Special Education Degree in 1966. Her first teaching job was in Benson, MN. The couple lived in the Benson-Morris area for the first 3 years of their marriage, until they moved to Waseca, MN where she started the Waseca Public School Special Education Department. In 1969 they moved to Richfield MN and Marlene decided to stay at home and raise their daughter, Kimberly. They welcomed Jeffery Dale on March 16th, 1970. The family moved to Red Lake Falls, MN in 1973 to join the Baird Family Farm. She worked various jobs during their farm years, including substitute teaching, Anderson fabrics, and worked last at Digi-Key for 15 years, until she was forced to retire due to her battle with cancer in 2009.
Marlene enjoyed quilting; she made many quilts for her family and friends over the years. She had a wonderful artistic side, from painting to sketching, and quilting. She loved working in her flower beds. In the early years she enjoyed street racing and she could speed shift like nobody's business. She loved spending as much time as she could with her three granddaughters.
Marlene is survived by her husband Jim; children: Kimberly Sue (Cecil) Werven, Boise, ID and Jeffrey Dale (Shari) Baird , Red Lake Falls; three grand daughters, Kelsee Grace Baird (14), Gabrielle Ann Baird (11), and Shellby Lynn Baird (7), all of Red Lake Falls; step-father, Glen (Jackie) Sheridan, Topeka, KS; brothers and sisters: Richard (Dee) Hacker, Apple Valley, MN, Ronald (Donna) Hacker, Spicer, MN, and Gilbert (Marie) Hacker, Alexandria, MN, Bonnie (Ken) French, Bradley Beach, NJ, and Russell ( Mary) Hacker, Alexandria, MN; nieces and nephews, Michael (Gina) Hacker, Steve Hacker, Christina Hacker; Brant (Julie) Hacker, Scott (Roxi) Hacker, Nichole (Todd) Kalevik; Crystal Hacker, Jeremy (Elizabeth) Hacker; Ryan (Joanna) Hacker, Chad (Kari) Hacker, Nick (Sarah Reich), Hannah Hacker, Laura (Erving) Bravo, Keith Baird, and Aaron Baird; and 17 Great Nieces and Nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Gertrude Ann Sheridan, father, Irving Hacker and niece, Elizabeth Hacker
