OBIT:

George Joseph Haberman, 92, of Ellensburg, died Wednesday, September 29, 1993 at Goldleaf Care Center in Ellensburg. He was born October 16, 1900 in Ellensburg, one of 10 children born to August and Annie (Linsner) Haberman.

Haberman graduated from Ellensburg High School and attended St. Martin's College in Lacey. He also attended Ellensburg Normal School and took a short course in machinery at Washington State University.

George and Ruby H. Hodgson were married December 30, 1925 in Ellensburg. He worked at Capitol Avenue Green House, owned by John Clymer, Sr., while attending high school and college in Ellensburg. He farmed with his two brothers, Will and John at their home place on Bar 14 Road and two adjoining farms, the Rader farm and Harvey place. Later he farmed his parents' farm with his brother Martin, and still later he farmed the place alone. The family lived and farmed the home place of his parents until 1940 when they bought the Norm Burroughs farm northeast of Ellensburg and 160 acres of land farther north on Wilson Creek Road known as the Levelus farm. Mr. Haberman farmed until his retirement in 1970.

When Mr. Haberman was 19 years old he joined the Farm Bureau and has been a continuous member for 60 years. He was the first chairman of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association in the district and the valley. It was then called "Owners Sample Association." He served on the Fair Board for 15 years and Kittitas County Dairy Association Creamery Board for 12 years.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Haberman of Ellensburg; sons Joe and his wife Erma Haberman of Ellensburg and Richard Haberman of Forks; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and two sisters.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday October 2, 1933 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Ellensburg. Concluding service and burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Viewing will be Thursday and Friday at Steward & Williams Chapel from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The family suggest contributions to the charity of one's choice.
