Mr. Haaland moved to the United States from Norway, at age 28, married and raised four children in the home he built in Randolph.
He was a carpenter and a carpenter foreman.
Mr. Haaland mastered cooking, both regular food and Norwegian specialties. He also enjoyed playing the accordion.
His wife, Todne, died in 1995.
He is survived by his two sons, Vidar and his wife, Maureen, of New London, Conn., and Garry and his wife, Mary, of Newton, Mass.; his two daughters, Marilyn Cherlin and her husband, Stewart, of Park Ridge, Ill., and Carol Saunier and her husband, Dave, of Randolph Township; and his 10 grandchildren, Katie, Jon, Eric and wife, Kaite, Alex, Maggie, Adam, Danny, Nick, Kayla and Avery.
also is survived by his sister, Ellen Rogenes, of Voorhees; and two brothers, Aanen Nelsen, Sr. of Colonie, N.Y., and Norman Haaland of Marnardal, Norway.
A memorial service was held on Monday, Oct. 30, at the Waterloo United Methodist Church in Waterloo Village.
Arrangements are by Tuttle Funeral Home, Randolph.
