Pvt. Robert Hanna was born in 1750 and died in 1825. He married Mary Ann Kirkpatrick and had eight children.

A Robert Hanna is listed on the 1810 Middlebrook, Augusta Co., VA census with 2 white males 45 and up, plus others.

According to the 1936 W.P.A. Historical Inventory of this cemetery by Scioto M. Herndon (online at Library of Virginia), there was a gravestone for:

"ROBERT HANNA
Pvt. Capt. Brent's
Co. 4th Va. Reg.
Rev. Soldier
U.S. Marker
(This man was father-in-law to Samule Doak)"

The 4th Virginia Regiment was formed at the Suffolk Court House.

The large granite memorial, a cenotaph, at North Mountain Burying Ground was installed in the 1980's by Bethel Presbyterian Church (formerly the North Mountain Meeting House). It says: "PVT. ROBERT HANNA" without any dates.

Note there is another Hanna close in age in the general area, Matthew Hanna, 1747 - 1815, buried in Lexington, Findagrave #22764455.
