She was a member of Mullins United Methodist Church, graduate of Duke University, Phi Beta Kappa, and the Colonial Dames.
Bettye leaves her sister, Carolyn VanWickle of Hot Springs; sister-in-law, Jewel Gwaltney; nieces, Carolyn Brown of W. Bloomfield, Mich, Kathleen Taylor of Glen Carbon, Ill., and nephew, James A. Gwaltney, III of Philadelphia, Pa.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 3, 2009 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.
