LEWISTOWN - Julia C. Brosius, 97, a resident of Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, and formerly of 47 Pannebaker Ave., Lewistown, died at 8:10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at the village.
Born Aug. 28, 1912, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Nevin F. and Sarah Mae (Kline) Gutshall. Her husband, Alfred H. Brosius, preceded her in death on March 6, 1970.
Surviving are daughters, Susan Wheeler and husband Roger, of Enola and Ellen M. Dietz and husband Robert, of Camp Hill.
Also surviving are: a sister, Myra Exler, of Dunedin, Fla.; half-sisters, Jean Noerr, of Lewistown, Ruth Johnson and husband Robert, of Sheldon, Wis., Miriam Messerman, of Lewistown, Janice Dalbac, of Aurora, Colo., and Elaine Beers and husband Robert, of Lititz; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Ralph Gutshall, Sherwood Gutshall, Fred Gutshall, Irvin Gutshall, Wayne Gutshall, Sara Mae Moir and Mary Jane Miller; stepsisters, Mildred Specht, Sara Showalter and Helen Parks, a stepbrothers, Elwood Rarick and a stepgranddaughter.
She was a 1931 graduate of Lewistown High School and a 1934 graduate of Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing.
Julia was a registered nurse at Lewistown Hospital from 1934 until 1939 and a private duty nurse from 1939 until 1974.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, a member of the church choir for over 60 years and a RN volunteer for the American Red Cross.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rick Bender officiating. Interment will be in Mount Rock Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 101 Logan St., Lewistown, PA 17044 or to the American Red Cross, 430 W. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17603.
Arrangements are under the care of Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc.
